
About the Recipe
A maharashtrian sweet delicacy, very healthy and non fried dish. A good combination of carb, protein, iron, calcium.

Ingredients
Specially made high quality rice flour - (rice is washed, dried and then powdered)
fresh coconut (grated)
Jaggery
cardamom powder
nutmeg powder
poppy seeds
water
ghee
salt
Preparation
For making the stuffing -
Take a thick bottom pan, add a spoon of ghee.
Then add 1 spoon poppy seeds and add grated coconut and crushed jaggery.
Let it cook for 10 minutes with continuous stirring.
Then add cardamom and nutmeg powder and again cook for 3 minutes with continuous stirring
turn off the flame and keep it for cooling at room temperature.
For making the outer covering (pari) -
take a pan add 1 cup water.
add pinch of salt and 1 spoon ghee to it and make it boil
as soon as water starts boiling, immediately mix rice flour to it with continous stirring
then keep a lid over it and turn off the flame.
after 5 min apply ghee or oil to hands and kneed the dough smoothly
Actual stuffing and steaming of Modaks -
divide the dough in equal medium size balls
take one ball stuff the coconut stuffing and shape it like modak.
after making all the modaks, take a dhokala or idali steaming pan apply oil over it or keep haldi leaves or banana leaves
and keep modak gently over it and steam for 12 to 15 minutes
Tip - for making tricolor i just toook food colored water for sprinkling
